A Perfect Linen Set for Summer
May 27, 2026

With warm days just around the corner, and summer (or even tropical!) getaways starting to take shape, I really wanted to sew myself a new lightweight and comfortable outfit. I was aiming for something simple and easy to wear day to day, but still polished enough to feel put together without much effort. Linen quickly felt like the obvious choice: natural, breathable, and timeless, it’s the perfect fabric for staying comfortable and stylish in the heat.

For this project, I chose Pure Linen, a fabric I truly enjoy working with for its quality and versatility. It has just enough structure to give garments shape, while remaining soft and pleasant against the skin. Linen also has that distinctive character: yes, it wrinkles, but in a way that feels natural and intentional. Over time, it only gets better, softening with each wash and becoming even more enjoyable to wear.

For the top, I started with the Know Me 2119 pattern. It’s a design with plenty of personality and decorative details. However, after looking at it more closely, I realized it didn’t fully align with my personal style. I tend to gravitate toward clean lines and simple silhouettes—pieces I can wear often and effortlessly. So I decided to simplify the pattern. I removed some of the more “frilly” elements to create a more minimalist look. This adaptation allowed the linen to really shine, while resulting in a top that feels modern, comfortable, and highly versatile. It’s exactly the kind of piece I love having in my summer wardrobe.
For the shorts, I turned to a pattern I already owned and have made several times before (Simplicity S9756). Using a tried-and-true pattern is always reassuring. I know it fits well and will be comfortable. In this Pure Linen, the shorts take on a slightly more elevated feel while staying relaxed and easy to wear, which is ideal for hot summer days.

In the end, this matching top-and-shorts set is perfect for heatwaves, summer outings, or even vacations under palm trees. I love its simple and natural look as well as its versatility. Each piece can easily be worn together or styled separately. It’s a project I truly enjoyed from start to finish, and one that perfectly reflects what I was looking for this season.
