Bright and Easy Spring Look

After a long winter, all I want is for my body to get some sun therapy. The cold shoulder look, as well as those culotte are just perfect pieces to transition to the new season.

The Fabrics

We were blessed with some nice fabric choices with the Fabricville Spring Collection release. For this look, I paired The Bamboo knit in Soft Blue and the Easy Blues laundered denim in Medium wash. The bamboo knit is so soft and comfortable to wear.  I assembled this top using the stretch stitch on my Babylock sewing machine. I reduced the pressure of my presser feet. This denim is also light and comfortable to wear. It is nice to press and holds the press nicely.

The patterns

The top was made using made using McCall’s 7722 view A (with View B’s bodice length). The culottes were made using Vogue 9302. Both patterns were easy to work with and I consider them beginner friendly.

I opted for an invisible zipper in the back. Also, most seams where finished using a mocked French Seams. If you are not familiar with this technique, it is very similar to the regular French Seam.

  • Sew right sides together.
  • Fold seam allowances toward center of the seam so raw edges meet the stitch line. Pin and/or press together. Edgestitch to secure in place.

It is a nice way to make sure your garment has a clean finish from inside out. It is faster than a French seam in my opinion.

I’d love to know if you have started you Spring sewing? Also, how do you transition your wardrobe from winter to spring? Any particular garment style you start wearing to let your skin breath that new fresh air? I’ll be back with my second spring make in a couple of weeks!
