Jalie designs the BEST patterns. They’re as modern as purchased garments, multi sized (often with 27 sizes) and with really cool details. Recently I sewed up a cool and cozy ensemble. Flat-front, high waisted leggings #3887 Clara in basic black and a raglan sleeved tunic length pullover #4346 Caroline in a cozy chenille knit.
The fabrics were supplied by Fabricville in return for me sewing up the garments and writing this blog post. I’m glad I did, because this became an outfit I plan to wear often. Below is a photo of the fabrics and the thread, as it arrived.
The black legging fabric is a Modal and spandex knit. It has a comfortable medium weight and is warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. Let me tell you; they feel so good on my skin that I could wear them all the time, even under my jeans in the winter. The cozy pullover is a medium weight knit fabric that is soft and stretchy for comfort and ease. Perfect for dresses, skirts, sweaters, cardigans, tops and more!
For the leggings, mine are full length, with 3 inches added above the knee to accommodate my long legs. I made view B without the yoke. These go smoothly up to my waist with full coverage, and NO CENTER FRONT SEAM! I used my serger for most of the assembly so the inner seams are smooth against my skin.
For the top, I chose view B, the tunic length featuring long sleeves, a funnel neck, and two hip pockets that can easily be worn with my favorite leggings (Jalie’s Clara). Both views have a comfortable raglan sleeve. Notice the way the sleeve seam lines continue up into the collar! The side seam pockets lay smoothly with no lumps.
I did not cut the bottom band as a separate piece, instead, I lengthened the body by the same amount. Then I turned up a hem to bring it back to the original length. The weight of the deeper hem means the pullover hangs straight instead of pulling in around my back-side.
The outside temperatures are almost cool enough to wear this cool and cozy outfit on a regular basis.
Disclaimer: In exchange for writing this post I chose to work with these patterns and fabrics. Fabricville supplied the fabrics and sewing thread, and Jalie provided the patterns, all at no charge to me.
A bit about me:
My name is Yvette Chilcott. I started a successful sewing machine dealership in the 1980’s, where classes were the backbone of my business. In 2014 I sold it, and now teach freelance in person and on Zoom. As a Jalie Creative Ambassador I’ve sewn most of their garment patterns multiple times. My home is in Trenton Ontario where I share space with my hubby and 3 cats. I LOVE to sew and share my passion on my blog: www.sewwhatyvette.com.
