I&#8217;m Margo and I can usually be found over at Creating In The Gap but I&#8217;m super excited to \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0be sharing my coat here with you today! \u00a0 \u00a0<!--more--> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Spring is in the air&#8230;well.. at least it is in my new coat! I am not usually drawn to the color pink but when every fashion magazine cover is bursting with it&#8217;s sweet hue, how could I not be influenced!?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-318 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9272-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"pink linen coat\" width=\"682\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9272-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9272-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9272-755x1133.jpg 755w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9272.jpg 1968w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I didn&#8217;t just stop at picking\u00a0a color uncharacteristic to me&#8230;I also decided to go with a <a href=\"http:\/\/fabricville.com\/en\/pastel-linen-celestina-petal-pink.html\" target=\"_blank\">linen<\/a>\u00a0from <a href=\"http:\/\/fabricville.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">fabricville.com<\/a>. \u00a0I haven&#8217;t sewn with linen very much and so of course my lack of knowledge factored into \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0my idea to make a coat. Just what everyone wants&#8230;a wrinkly coat. Yeah, good idea, Margo. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Well as it turns out, I think it was a great idea. I really like it! And the wrinkles aren&#8217;t so bad!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-319\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9200-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9200\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9200-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9200-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9200-755x1132.jpg 755w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9200.jpg 1994w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I chose this <a href=\"http:\/\/fabricville.com\/en\/pastel-linen-celestina-petal-pink.html\" target=\"_blank\">Pastel Linen in Petal Pink<\/a>. Pretty! Although I started this project blindly&#8230;I stopped myself \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 from going further and researched linen and how to sew with it. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I came to my senses, aren&#8217;t you proud of me?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Here is just some of what I learned&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Embrace the wrinkles! It is a part of the beauty of linen&#8230;so get over it. Period.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Wash and dry the heck out if it&#8230;.before you sew with it&#8230;of course.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Straighten the grain by snipping into the edge and pulling a thread, followed by your scissors.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Press.. press&#8230; press&#8230;. and press it damp. When sewing, press as you go.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Use a new universal 80\/12 for this mid weight linen.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Finish your seams&#8230;to prevent fraying. Zig zag, serged, Hong Kong, turned and hemmed all work.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Good choices for lining are Bemberg, silk organza, or cotton voile.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Use a cotton thread, I didn&#8217;t know this but&#8230;polyester thread can stretch slightly when wound onto the bobbin and cause puckering in your linen. I had already started with poly by the time I learned this but next time I will try cotton.<\/li>\n<li>Use<a href=\"http:\/\/fabricville.com\/en\/clover-quilting-pins-fine.html\" target=\"_blank\"> good glass head silk pins<\/a>&#8230;this is something I started doing a long time ago and find it make such a difference. It&#8217;s also nice to run over those heads with the iron and they don&#8217;t melt. Been there&#8230;done that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Much of this I learned from listening to a podcast on Thread Cult&#8230;. I love listening to sewing podcasts while I sew.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-325\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9167-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9167\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9167-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9167-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9167-755x1132.jpg 755w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For my coat, I used Newlook 6162. The pattern has been in my stash a long time and I thought it&#8217;s collar could easily be changed to the ruffled one I wanted by adding length to the pattern piece. I used the ruffle attachment on my sewing machine to get the nice even ruffles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-316\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9169-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9169\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9169-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9169-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9169-755x1132.jpg 755w, https:\/\/blog.fabricville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_9169.jpg 1989w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I underlined my entire coat with organza. I chose the organza because I read somewhere that it would help&#8230;but not prevent&#8230; harsh creases from forming in the linen. I would have to agree that it does help. Then I treated my seams with a Hong Kong finish. And yes,\u00a0it was \u00a0A LOT OF WORK! But so worth it! I think I&#8217;m now tempted to try a flowy dress in this <a href=\"http:\/\/fabricville.com\/en\/handkerchief-linen-blue.html\" target=\"_blank\">Hankercheif linen<\/a>.
