When I first realized that Fabricville carries Tunisian crochet hooks, I couldn\u2019t wait to try something new! I\u2019ve always wanted to learn Tunisian crochet.<\/p>\n

For the yarn, I selected\u00a0Paton\u2019s Classic Wool Worsted<\/a>\u00a0in grey mix. A contrasting colour, such as Aran or Winter White, completes the two-tone effect.<\/p>\n

Without knowing anything about Tunisian crochet, I assumed I could just order the hook size recommended on the yarn. But it turns out that Tunisian crochet works up much denser than regular crochet so you need to increase the hook size by at least 1 mm if not more. For this yarn, I would recommend this\u00a06.0 mm double-end hook<\/a>. A double end hook is essential for working with two colours.<\/p>\n

One of my favourite features is the button closure in the back of the pillow cover, \u00a0so it\u2019s removable for washing. It\u2019s crocheted in Tunisian crochet smock stitch.<\/p>\n

My New Passion Project \u2013 the Kayla Pillow<\/h2>\n

The past month has been an emotional roller coaster for me and my husband because both our moms passed away from Alzheimer\u2019s. While my mom was in palliative care,\u00a0delving into learning Tunisian crochet helped focus my sadness into positive energy. Working away on the design of the Kayla pillow, I would sit by mom and crochet while keeping her company.<\/p>\n

Mom taught me how to crochet when I was six. She instilled in me a love of everything DIY and craft. It seems only fitting to turn her gift to me into a gift to help others.\u00a0So I\u2019m donating 100% of all pattern\u00a0sales to benefit Alzheimers<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>in\u00a0memory of both our moms.<\/p>\n

I looked everywhere for a how-to video on how to block crochet, but couldn\u2019t find one specific to home decor, like this throw pillow. So I\u2019d like to kick off the launch of the Kayla pillow with this video tutorial on how to block your crochet work:<\/p>\n
