A Western shirtdress is reminiscent of your favorite comfortable denim shirt, and is perfect for everyday occasions. Shirtdresses are by far my favorite make, I probably own every pattern available. I love the style, the fit and the versatility of these dresses.<\/p>\n

I selected this McCall\u2019s pattern because of the patch pockets with buttons and flaps, the three piece sleeve with buttoned cuff and topstitching details. I chose to make view C because a full skirt would look lovely with the fabric I purchased.<\/p>\n

The fabric<\/strong><\/p>\n

I originally wanted to make a classic denim dress, but when I saw this fabric I knew it would be a great fit for my chosen pattern.<\/p>\n

This silky denim look print is made of 75% rayon and 25% nylon. It is much softer than denim and has a beautiful drape.<\/p>\n

After finding the perfect notions I was ready to sew!<\/p>\n

The making of<\/strong><\/p>\n

This project was a bit more time consuming due to the extra pieces and topstitching required, but it is well worth it in the end. I find the details to be less obvious on my version of the dress because of the busy print, but they are still there and give the garment the style and feel I wanted, just in a more subtle way.<\/p>\n

You can see here the pocket and shoulder details and topstitching, as well as on the back bodice.<\/p>\n

The dress can also be styled in different ways by adding a belt or rolling up the sleeves.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n

With this project complete, I definitely want to make this pattern again in view A with a heavier plain denim. Luckily there are plenty of beautiful fabrics available!<\/p>\n
