For this spring, I wanted something classic with a twist. In the last few years, I\u2019ve been trying to sew a sustainable closet. What is more classic and timeless than a shirtdress? Lately, I have seen a few striped shirtdresses in fashion magazines. Then came to me the idea to sew my own.<\/p>\n

Rio poplin in royal mini stripes<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n

Upon my last visit to the store, I fell really hard for this blue striped fabric. In fact, among all the prints available in the Rio collection<\/a>, it was hard to pick my favorite. The main attraction of the Rio collection is the stripe in all its glory. They are present in all widths and colors for maximum impact. This classic print is ubiquitous on the spring 2022 runways. There is no limit to what you can do with a striped pattern.<\/p>\n

McCall’s M7387<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n

Here is my long shirtdress in thin blue striped poplin. I chose McCall’s M7387<\/a> (view E) as my base pattern. As usual, I modified the sewing pattern to accommodate my square shoulders. In doing so, I was unable to use the collar pattern piece. So I used self-made bias binding to finish the neckline. All in all, this pattern is easy to make, and if I had to use it again, I would use it with a rayon challis.<\/p>\n

My new shirtdress<\/p><\/div>\n

Here’s how I put together my shirt dress:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. I interfaced the button plackets and stitched them to the front pieces.<\/li>\n
  2. I attached the top back yoke to the bottom back piece.<\/li>\n
  3. I assembled the shoulder and side seams of the dress.<\/li>\n
  4. I applied the bias to the neckline.<\/li>\n
  5. I sewed the sleeve extensions.<\/li>\n
  6. I created the buttonholes and installed the buttons.<\/li>\n
  7. I finished the slits on the sides and hemmed the bottom of the dress.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Of course, you can also follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the pattern envelope. They are complete and well-illustrated.<\/p>\n

    The Rio poplin<\/a> has a crisp hand and is a charm to cut and sew. Furthermore, it requires very little ironing. I highly recommend this poly-cotton poplin for any style of shirt, pajamas, or dress.<\/p>\n

    The McCall\u2019s M7387 pattern offers you many lengths variations and sleeves options. I like the short cuff-like sleeve extension. This style is a fresh version of the classic shirtdress!<\/p>\n
