We’ve been working on redecorating our guest room in the basement in preparation for the holidays (and an influx of out-of-towners), and the bed was the main area that needed a facelift.<\/p>\n

The first step was choosing a colour scheme, which we did (we painted the space with Benjamin Moore’s Barely Beige, a great colour to warm up the modest space and cover the imperfections that had manifested the last five years we’ve been living here). Then we decided on bedding – I’d had a beautiful quilt that I’d always wanted to use in the guest room, and I loved the traditional yet inviting colours. The ideal bedskirt would have to be white.<\/p>\n

I shopped for bedskirts, and for what is a relatively “simple” item, it was quite pricey. So I decided to make one. And, given my complete lack of sewing skills, I turned to my trusty staple gun again (I’d already done a cheater’s version reupholstering of a chair<\/a> in my office, and had grown quite attached to my staple gun!).<\/p>\n

I started by measuring the bed on three sides (since I didn’t need it to run along the head of the bed, since that was pushed up against a wall) and hitting my local Fabricville to choose my material. I fell in love with a simple lightweight white fabric, which the Fabricville staff helped me to measure and cut. Then I headed home to start my DIY project.<\/p>\n

It was super easy. I ran the material around the bedframe, holding it in place while my husband stapled it. It was done within minutes. We put the mattress on top, dressed the bed, and we were quite pleased with the final look.<\/p>\n
