Comfy and breathable cotton<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Simplicity<\/p>\n

I’ve always loved Simplicity patterns. I’ve been buying them since I was a little girl. Finally, they’re back at Fabricville after several years of absence. This pattern immediately appealed to me when I saw it. Simplicity S9756<\/a> features an oversized tunic shirt combined with a pair of straight-leg pants. I love the two garments separately and together.<\/p>\n

For my version, I chose a navy cotton poplin<\/a>. This pattern pairs well with anything from light to medium-weight cotton poplin, rayon challis, polyester cr\u00eape, or linen poplin.<\/p>\n

\"Oversized

Oversized shirt<\/p><\/div>\n

Since the shirt is oversized, a few adjustments were necessary. I modified the shoulder line to accommodate my shoulder build. I also shortened the sleeves by 15 mm (5\/8 in.). As I plan to use this shirt as a beach outing on my next vacation, I lengthened it by 10 cm (4 in.). Also, the pattern recommends 20 mm (3\/4 in.) buttons, but I opted for smaller 15 mm (5\/8 in.) buttons.<\/p>\n

\"Inner

Inner waistband<\/p><\/div>\n

For the pants, I changed the waistband to a 25 mm (1 in.) wide elastic band. I graduated between two sizes and added 5 cm (2 in.) to the length of the pants. I left an opening on the inside of the waistband to accommodate any weight fluctuation.<\/p>\n

\"Sleeve\"

Sleeve<\/p><\/div>\n

All in all, this project was satisfying to complete. It’s been a long time since I made shirts. I love the piping detail on the buttoned sleeves. It’s the same seam finish I have on my store-bought shirts.<\/p>\n

I recommend this project to intermediate sewists wanting to learn how to make shirts. The pants are a breeze to make.<\/p>\n
