Summer sewing with Fabricville is FUN sewing!
Disclaimer: In exchange for writing this post I chose to work with these patterns and fabrics. The fabric was supplied by Fabricville, and the patterns were supplied by Jalie, all at no charge to me.
I chose to sew (again) with Jalie patterns. Why? Because I love these 2 styles, and I love the very clever techniques in Jalie patterns. As a Jalie Ambassador I’ve sewn many of their styles, and they always work out sew well!
The fabrics I chose worked out perfectly for these patterns.
The Fabrics:
The solid coloured blue fabric is a medium weight polyester and rayon fabric is great for pants, skirts and dresses. Called « Tracy » Product # ER309
That awesome white with co-ordinating polka-dots is a blend of linen and rayon with medium weight is soft which gives a fluid drape. It is ideal for dresses, skirts and pants. Called « Georgia » product #ED806
The Jalie Patterns:
Easy-to-wear, feminine top, semi-fitted at bust and hips, with more ease around the waist. V neck finished with facing, cap sleeve and optional keyhole back (required for kids sizes, optional in adult sizes). The diagonal seaming allows you to do some fun color blocking and mock crossover effect. View B is finished with an encased elastic at the bottom. UPC Code: 1703904
Lightweight woven pants with full elastic and drawstring waistband, tapered leg, slanted hip pockets and faux fly. A waistband inset keeps center front flat and allows for a cute color accent. View A: Hemmed at ankle length
View B: Elasticized cuffed hem UPC Code: 2003676
My Personal Adjustments:
I’d previously sewn both of these so I had already made my personal adjustments to each pattern. At 5 ft 10 inches, I ALWAYS add body length. On Alice I added 1 inch to the bottom. I also do a round shoulder adjustment to the back. On Vanessa I added 3/4″ to the rise, which involved the front, back and both pocket pieces. I posted a how-to video on youtube, click here to view it. I also reduce the back crotch width by 1/2 to fit my flat behind. These are not difficult to do, and are worth it to get a flattering and comfortable fit.
My Personal Review:
I find it really difficult to purchase fabric on-line. In a perfect world I wander around a fabric store, looking and touching anything that appeals to me. I shop by colour and feel, and am an impulse buyer when it comes to fabric. Keeping that in mind, I find that the fabric description on Jalie patterns is very accurate. So were the fabric descriptions on Fabricville’s website, making it easy to choose the correct type of fabric for these garments. My biggest worry was colour. I worried that the polka-dots wouldn’t be the right shade to match the solid. As you can see, it wasn’t a problem.
I’ll enjoy wearing this outfit well into the summer and fall.
A bit about me:
