Treating your father only takes a few meters of cotton poplin, a simple pattern and 5 hours of leisurely\u00a0sewing.\u00a0For this bathrobe I used a combination of dog print navy cotton twill<\/a> and\u00a0Burda 6740 pattern<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Calculating the time<\/h3>\n

I did not mislead you: this project took me 5 hours to complete from start to finish. First, cutting out the paper pattern \u2013 25 minutes. Second, cutting out the fabric \u2013 35 minutes. Third, 10 minutes coffee reward pause. Finally, making up the garment \u2013 the rest of the time. To complete, final pressing, if desired \u2013 5 minutes. I call it\u00a0near instant gratification<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The possibilities are endless: make the robe long or short, with a collar or kimono style, in one fabric or\u00a0color\u00a0blocked.\u00a0Hence, may your creativity soar!\u00a0 This particular garment is a gift for a dear friend, who is like an adopted father for our family ever since we immigrated to Canada 15 years ago. He just turned 96 years old!<\/p>\n

Nota Bene on the bathrobe<\/h3>\n

Just 2 notes\u00a0on the pattern: mark the center of the collar and it will be easier to put it in.\u00a0 I also veered off the pattern instructions when I was attaching the underside of the collar: I machine stitched it instead of attaching it by hand. Likewise, I attached the facing along the edge. Ah, one more thing: I made belt loops out of the same fabric and attached them\u00a0with\u00a0a thin zigzag stitch. That’s because I imagined hand-made belt loops to be too labour consuming. Finally, I stitched a piece of ribbon to be able to hang the robe on the hook.<\/p>\n
