Sewing My Dream Summer Set

There’s something magical about sewing with linen especially when the warm days start rolling in. I recently finished a two-piece set that will become my summer uniform: a pair of relaxed barrel-leg pants and a cropped top, both in khaki green stretch linen that feels as good as it looks.

The pants were my favorite part to sew. Barrel-leg trousers have this effortlessly modern silhouette—roomy through the leg but gently tapered at the ankle.

I switched the in-seam pockets for slash hand pockets for practicality and a wide elastic waistband for comfort. The stretch linen gives the pants some structure without stiffness, letting me move easily with every step. I love how they manage to look polished while feeling like loungewear.

To pair with the pants, I made a simple cropped top with a boxy fit and a round neckline. It’s sleeveless, with subtle shaping at the sides so it skims the body without clinging. The cropped length hits just right at the waistband of the pants, giving the whole outfit a modern, balanced look. I kept the construction minimal with just a simple hook closure at the back because linen really shines when you let it speak for itself. This khaki green is such a standout; it’s earthy but vibrant, and it complements everything from sandals to sneakers. The beauty of a matching set like this is its versatility: worn together, it’s a statement outfit; worn separately, each piece holds its own.

Here are the products I used to make this outfit :

Sewing with linen always reminds me why I love making my own clothes. It’s breathable, sustainable, and just gets better with every wash. If you’re looking for a summer sewing project, I can’t recommend a linen set like this enough!
