Some patterns are classics

The new interesting jacquard knits like this one were obvious candidates for my all-time most used pattern Jalie 3903, the Nicole dress.

Here is why I love this pattern and fabric combination.

Sizing and Fit

Like all Jalie patterns the sizing and fit are very much like RTW. The neckline and upper body are fitted but the skirt has just enough east to not cling. Unlike many T-shirt-type knit dresses, this pattern has bust darts which I really think improves the fit. There are two neckline views, a mock turtle neck and a crew neck and although I sewed a dress this pattern would make a great knit top or tunic.

I loved the jacquard knit (SR4412). There were several different patterns available in the store when I picked this one up and I might go back and get more in a different colour. It is a heavy and interesting fabric with a nice stretch and body. Obviously, such a striking surface design required a very simple pattern which is why I chose 3903. I always start my projects with the fabric first and work out from there. Pattern choice to me is always step two.

Construction Process

This was no more work than sewing a T-shirt. The whole dress was done in an hour. I added stay tape at the shoulder seams but otherwise followed the instructions and serged all seams.

Final Result

Overall Rating Five stars for both the pattern and fabric!
